In today’s world where digital privacy and cyber security are becoming increasingly important, it is crucial that we stay informed about the latest developments and potential threats to our personal data. A recently revealed report gives us all a reason to be concerned and shows that we need to change NOW to ensure our privacy and security.
On Thursday, US Department of Justice Inspector General Michael Horowitz admitted in a hearing before the US House of Representatives Committee on Appropriations on Crime and Federal Government Oversight that the FBI conducted a total of 3.4 million unauthorised “backdoor searches” of US citizens’ communications. Even more alarming, of these searches, more than one million were erroneous – a 30% error rate.
With regard to FISA, the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act, it turned out that no one knows exactly how many people are authorised to conduct such “backdoor searches” of US citizens’ communications.
These numbers are alarming and underscore the importance of standing up for privacy and cybersecurity. If we do not actively seek to protect our data and communications from unauthorised access, we risk becoming victims of data breaches, identity theft or even political manipulation.
The fact that even government agencies such as the FBI carry out this kind of unauthorised access and have such a high error rate should alarm us all and make us rethink our digital habits. It is high time that we actively advocate for more transparency and data protection to ensure that our privacy and security are maintained.
We are determined to keep you informed of the latest privacy and cybersecurity developments and provide you with the information and resources you need to protect yourself and your data. Exactly what the FBI is doing above, the government surveillance, there are simple solutions that this cannot be done to you in the future.
